Paint on roofs

New Roofs: (Galvanized Iron and Aluminum Zinc)

New roofs are considered new if roof was unpainted for up to two years. Before painting the roof, the surface must be prepared by cleaning the surface with Peralin Metal Cleaner (MXC-1). This is necessary as new roof sheets have a waxy protective layer that needs to be removed first. Apply 1 coat metal cleaner with a brush and leave for 10 to 15 minutes. Wash with clean water until all dirt and cleaner is removed. Repeat process if necessary.

Now 2 to 3 topcoats can be painted with Peralin Paints superior self-priming heat reflective Cool Roof Paint (MDC).

Old Roofs: (Galvanized Iron and Aluminum Zinc)

Old roofs are considered old if roof was unpainted for more than two years. Before painting the roof, the surface must be prepared by cleaning the surface with a hard bristle broom and clean water. Remove any rust on the roof sheets and spot prime with Peralin Anti-Rust primer (MCWP-1)

Now 2 to 3 topcoats can be painted with Peralin Paints superior self-priming heat reflective Cool Roof Paint (MDC).

Previously Painted Roofs: (Galvanized Iron and Aluminum Zinc)

Before painting the roof, the surface must be prepared by cleaning the surface with a hard bristle broom and clean water. Remove all dirt and ensure that all chalky areas are removed (no powder residue must be left on roof sheets). Remove any rust on the roof sheets and spot prime with Peralin Anti-Rust primer (MCWP-1)

Now 2 to 3 topcoats can be painted with Peralin Paints superior self-priming heat reflective Cool Roof Paint (MDC).

Apply 2 coats Pera Roof felting Paint 10% thinned with water. Use Pera Roof felting Paint between overlapping sheets as glue. Leave to dry and apply 2 coats Peralin Paints superior self-priming UV resistant Roof Felting Paint (MDF) paint un-thinned.

Previously Painted Roofs: (Roof Felting – Coastal Regions)

Before painting the roof, the surface must be prepared by removing all loose particles, old paint, salts and dirt with a hard bristle broom and rinse with clean water.

Leave to dry and apply 2 coats Peralin Paints superior self-priming UV resistant Roof Felting Paint (MDF) paint un-thinned.

When should I paint my roof?

The best time in Namibia would be late autumn or winter after surface preparation. As roof sheets heat up during the day, it is advised to paint early morning or late afternoon when roof temperatures are lower. This will ensure that good adhesion of paint is obtained. When roofs are too hot adhesion could be compromised. Which could result in blisters and peeling of the paint. Avoid painting your roof in very windy conditions. Use Pera Cool Roof (MDC) self-priming heat reflecting pure Acrylic roof paint for a long lasting durability.
